Facebook Friends

Don't you just love catching up with old friends on Facebook? Like this lady, Sarah. I haven't seen her, literally in years. We went to the same elementary school in the Bahamas and I moved away after sixth grade. But thanks to internet social-networking, I just finished looking at pictures of her fabulous destination wedding in South Africa.
Sarah's now-husband Richard is from South Africa so they decided to head to his home country and make an exotic trip out of their wedding. Family and friends were able to see Capetown, go on safari, tour wine country and even celebrate New Year's. The wedding ceremony and reception took place in Franscchoek at a seven-room boutique hotel called Klein Genot.
Sarah and her wedding planner put together a beautiful color scheme of include whites, beiges, golds, creams and teal blue. The bride and her bridesmaids took a special trip to the states to pick out their attire. They went to the Dressing Room, and while trying on dresses and sipping on champagne they fell in love with this gold dress by Jenny Yoo.
My favorite detail of the entire wedding. . . this veil-inspired headpiece, by Leah C. Couture. Sarah's dress is by Nicole Miller.Actually it might be a tie with the walking-on-air cake. . .it looks like it just might float away.
A gorgeous wedding. Congrats to Sarah and Richard!

Because I heart paper

There are just a handful of places in the world that make me as happy as that one stationery store among stationery stores, Paper Source.

I mean, are you with me? It's like this magical, colorful, peaceful land of organization and harmony. Sigh. Me, my ipod, one of these, and a solid hour in Paper Source. I guarantee I'll find something I need.

But if you're one of those girls who needs like an actual reason to head over to Paper Source (who are you people?), then maybe you'll be persuaded by their upcoming wedding events!

First there's the Complimentary Creative Wedding Demos on February 21st, where you'll get tips on gorgeous wedding invitations and 'tasteful tabletop decor'. Go back on March 5th for their exclusive event, The Wedding Suite. You'll be greeted with champagne and chocolate dipped strawberries while you create a full suite of wedding samples — including a select group of letterpress invitations, escort cards, favors and table accents. Fancy!

See you there?

Thank Heaven

I'm back kids, and 100% recovered thanks to some crackers and ginger ale.

When I got married two years ago, there were no little girls in either of our families, hence no flower girls. And right now there are so many just charming little dresses and accessories at places like Us Angels and even JCrew, that I'm sorry we missed out! Plus there's another reason I'm kind of obsessed with everything frilly and pink these days. That's right folks . . . it's a GIRL!

So maybe I was just a tad more excited than most when I saw this feature in Brides. But I think you'll find these selections pretty adorable too.
Blush crinkle chiffon empire dress, $98, Us Angels
Pink patent leather Mary Janes, $60, by Kidexpress, Zappos.com
Periwinkle shantung dress with purple taffeta bow, $199, The Ladybug Collection
Apple green tulle and Midori silk shantung dress, $189, by WaWa
Ballet flats, $95, by J. Crew, jcrew.com

The food-poisoned's best friend

Guys, I'm not having much luck today in the whole feeling-ok department, so forgive me for the delay on an update. I'm going to continue lying on the couch, watching Flight of the Conchords and snuggling with this guy. Hope to be back up and running tomorrow.

Did I miss anything?

Back from the Caribbean and I am reveling in my mid-winter tan and nursing my sunburned feet (note to those heading to warm weather. . .the sunblock should go everywhere). Looks like you all had plenty to keep you busy? How about the new First Lady's beautiful Jason Wu inauguration night gown? Gorgeous.

I've got just a couple things to catch up on, but be sure to come back tomorrow for a few more post-inauguration goodies!

Here's the thing

As much as I'd love to stay in town to enjoy the inaugural festivities on the coldest weekend of the year, my husband offered to whisk me off to the tropics instead. Soooo. . .I'm going to do that. For all of you still in town, bundle up and enjoy. I'll be back Wednesday!

Coated

Anyone else see this gorgeous 100% cashmere Lia Lintern coat in their DailyCandy email this morning?
Just precious. I have to admit it's not exactly my style, but the details are so exquisite, you can't help looking at it as a work of art. Which is fortunate because at $645 it's in the same price range.

Oh and in case you're wondering the coat's exact shade of white, it's actually 'dove blue'.

Something barely blue for all you winter brides?

Globe-trotting

Yeah, I watched all three hours of the Golden Globes last night, that's right. Actually, five if you count the pre-ceremony red carpet coverage on E. (I was productive the rest of the weekend I swear) But don't judge. . .I did it for you guys! You MUST see my favorite color combinations from the red carpet.
Kate Beckinsale, in J. Mendel with Fred Leighton jewels
(Possibly my favorite look of the night. . .I love the dramatic red earrings with the pristine white dress)
Eva Mendes, in Christian Dior with Van Cleef & Arpels jewelry
(Another bold color paired with white. . .getting any ideas?)

Drew Barrymore, in Dior Haute Couture with a Roger Vivier clutch
(She'd totally fit in at this wedding)
Cameron Diaz, in Chanel Haute Couture with a Chanel clutch and René Caovilla shoes
(I think she's going to fit in at this wedding, but we'll have to wait and see)

Off the beaten registry

I didn't make any New Year's resolutions per se, but I am somewhat on a let's be super-responsible-now-that-we're-having-a-child-kick, and if I do say so myself. . .I am on a roll! Seriously, the bed is made, the dishes are clean, a major piece of furniture was recently purchased and the baby's registry is started. Yup, I am getting stuff done my friends. And today, I tackled an often frustrating task. . . I finally bought a few just mildly overdue wedding gifts.

It can be tough to find the right gift for a couple a few months after the wedding. At that point, the registry is usually depleted and you can be stuck with I don't know, either a set of $500 Faberge accent plates you can't exactly afford or measuring spoons for $4.99. Not exactly prime pickings.

As I've said before, we're lucky that nowadays it's considered perfectly fine etiquette to stray from a couple's registry, and if you're past the wedding date, you might find that you need to do so. The problem is that it seems all we know is Pottery Barn, Crate & Barrel, Williams Sonoma & Target. And don't get me wrong, those are some of my favorite stores, but sometimes we need hints on where else to shop. So if you're in the same position I was in this afternoon, here are some gifts that almost any newlywed can use, from a few stores that are off the beaten path.
Chateau Pillar Holder, $55 - $75 at Shabby Chic
Veuve Cliquot Traveller, $69.99 at Wine.com
Set of 4 Black Lace Vinyl Placemats, $16 at Smak ParlourFleur de lys towel collection, $15-$110 at Shaby Chic
Set of 10 Pantone mugs, $128 at A+R
Lion cache pot, $85 at The Source Perrier
Hearty tea pot set, $140 at Molla Space
Gleeful soaps, $20 each at The Source Perrier
Cube wine bottle holder, $90 at bitters coSet of 8 wood laser-cut coasters, $43 at A+R
Still looking? A few other favorites; Anthropologie, Jo Malone, Zingerman's, Etsy, CB2, The Container Store, Z Gallerie, Charlotte Moss, The MoMa Design Store, The Olive Press, Clio, Villeroy & Boch, Dwell, Superdeluxe, Tabletop, Sur la table, L'Occitane, Phew! Ok already? Go, shoo. Shop!

LWDs

If you haven't noticed, I have a real soft-spot for short, informal, whimsical little white 'wedding' dresses. I didn't wear one at my wedding and I bet that most of you didn't, right? A wedding is usually a formal affair, but you know, sometimes it just isn't and I have to admit I'm a little jealous of those of you who get to go short and sweet on your big day. I mean you know my thoughts on this whole 'union', but when Heidi walked into the courthouse on the season finale of the Hills, I swooned over her little white dress. If LWDs are what you have in mind, I saw these when I scanned the Shopbop sale rack earlier today, 70%, 70% and 50% off respectively.

Be sure to wear

Alright, alright! Well, I for one am feeling quite refreshed after some (if I do say so myself) well-deserved time off with friends and family over the holidays, and I hope that you all are too. Looks like I didn't miss too much while I was gone, although in the world of celebrity love things are looking down. What with Gossip Girl's Kelly Rutherford filing for divorce, Katy Perry and Travis McCoy calling it quits, and doesn't it seem like Whitney's love-interest Jay on The City is kind of bad news? But I digress. . .more importantly (in my world) as of January 1st, 2009 bon mariage has been up and running for a whole year! Many thanks to all you readers for continuing to stop by. But on to the reason you're here. . .wedding tip of the day?
How about these sweet little rosebud hairpins I saw on Wedded Bits? Available from Etsy seller FriendlyBanter, I think they put quite the crafty spin on wearing flowers in your hair.
This one is a white orchid. I actually wore real white orchids in my hair on my wedding day, and although I liked the way they looked, I have to admit it was a pain to worry about keeping them fresh until I got to the hair salon. If that's a worry you'd like to strike from your list, these might be a perfect option.
