A year and a half and some change

Delightful local photographer Mary-Kate McKennna will be shooting a wedding for one of my clients in a couple weeks. I am so excited to work with her, and I was taking a look at her blog and came across these lovely shots of St. Matthew's Cathedral.

This is where I was married, so yeah, I'm kind of partial.

Limos and Lib-ations

I spent this past Saturday having a fantastic time at Libby's bridal shower and bachelorette party. . .and believe it or not it was quite the civilized affair. . .

We started the day off with a breakfast and shower hosted by sister-of-the-bride Emily, and then took off for a limousine vineyard tour.

First pour at our first stop, Breux Vineyards.
At Breux we ordered our favorite bottle of wine from the tasting and sat down at one of their outside tables for a picnic.

The second stop was Hillsborough Vineyards where we took pictures of the beautiful views and made use of those adirondack chairs.

The last vineyard on our tour, Notaviva Vineyards, was just a little bit different from the others. We we walked in to live jazz playing and for each wine our waiter offered a 'musical' pairing.
Our dessert was brought along for the trip from Georgetown Cupcake.
The red-velvet cupcake. My nemesis.
Ok, we did get just a little bit un-civilized and peeped out of the sunroof on our way home. Can you blame us?

I don't think so

Dear DeAnna,

No.

Please see suggestion below.

Hugs,

D

The Look of Love

I've been a fan of scene-stealer Amanda Seyfried since Mean Girls and I'm really excited to see her performance in Mamma Mia. She looks the part of beautiful bohemian bride in all the promos, and I want her looooong hair! Interested in something similar for your big day? Wedded Bits spoke to hairstylist Zoe Tahir about replicating the natural look, check out the post here.

BFF Bride

Here's a picture from my wedding two years ago of my great friend Molly, with her great man Walter.
I kind of hate to admit it, but they ruled the dance floor.
Up until now I've never had any trouble remembering their anniversary. . .their first date ever was on my birthday.
Their wedding anniversary is going to be a different story, and something tells me I'll need come up with something better than this to remind me.
Congratulations to Molly and Walter!

Eh, Voila!

At the risk of sounding un-American, Happy Bastille Day y'all! Not a holiday that we observe in these parts but it happens to be my hubby's birthday, so I never forget it. So in honor of hubby, the Frenchies and my favorite visual inspiration of all time, the film Marie Antoinette, here are some beautiful fans that could serve as great July wedding favors. Enjoy!
Pink silk favor fan, $2.30

Sandalwood fan, $3.58

Blue silk fan, $2.50

Once again, a-thank you

ABC is turning into a marriage-making factory! Ok, well at least a factory that produces couples who say they're getting married. Congrats to Bachelorette DeAnna Pappas and lucky winner Jesse Csincsak who revealed their engagement on Monday.
I'm hopeful for these two. . .they've already announced their wedding date to be May 9, 2009. My fingers are crossed for a TV special a la you-know-who!

Roman Holiday

I just swooned when I saw Anne Hathaway channeling Audrey Hepburn at the Roman premiere of Get Smart in this lovely little wedding-worthy Valentino number.

She just feels soooo pretty. You can tell.

Studio Art

Choosing your flowers can be one of the most stressful and expensive parts of planning a wedding, which is why I am so excited to tell you about a new and fabulous vendor, my dear friends Jen and Rachel at Atelier Floral Design. If you're a creative bride who doesn't want to sacrifice decor for lack of budget. . .these gals will take great care of you. Take a look at these photos of one of their recent weddings.

Simple, natural and incredibly elegant.

Sweet tooth calling

Cupcakes are so hot right now! Joining the trend is local bridal salon Hitched. . .starting tomorrow they'll be offering sweets in addition to wedding gowns.

The local shop is teaming up with the Baltimore Cupcake Company to offer cupcakes to-go or for special order. They're perfect for whether you're hosting a bachelorette party, baby shower or bridesmaids' tea. Or, you know, maybe you're selecting your bridal gown and you're just a tad hungry? There's plenty of time before that first fitting!

From sea to shining sea!

Is there anyone out there who would really, purposefully, plan a fourth of July-themed wedding? I'm not talking about a wedding that happens to take place on the fourth or on the weekend of the fourth. I'm talking about a fully themed-out ceremony and reception. Of course there is. That's why things like this exist. And earlier today I would have shuddered at the thought, but to tell you the truth, this inspiration board has me totally digging the idea! As long as we can exclude the star-spangled-dress that is. I had to re-post here and show you all.

It's casual, it's backyard, it's Americana! Why not? Check out Finding Calm in the Chaos for the full credits.

Happy Fourth of July all. . .I'm off to the beach. . . see you next week!

Bet they did the Charleston at the reception

Earlier last month Alejandra de Borbón, the daughter of Alfonso de Borbón, who just so happens to be the cousin of King Juan Carlos of Spain, married Bosco Ussía at the Santa Maria Cathedral in Guadalajara, Spain. The bride wore a stunning, 30s-inspired Chanel gown that just makes me swoon.

Not all brides can get away with a dress that so clearly evokes another era, but I think she looks amazing.
