Ben(y) and Zooey

Oh goody! The ridiculously-adorable Zooey Deschanel just went and got herself engaged to Death Cab for Cutie singer Ben Gibbard.
I just love Zooey. Her clothes, her style, her voice. . .my sister-in-law just introduced me to her side-project band, She & Him. So I can't wait to see what sort of look she pulls together for a wedding. I'm going to go out on a limb here and say she's going to wear a vintage-inspired dress, and that black tights will be involved.

A special holiday message

From Santa Dog!
Desi just wanted to say, Happy Holidays to all. . .
. . .he's beyond excited to visit family over Christmas. . .
. . .but he likes to keep it all inside. . .
. . .he's got to keep his energy up. We'll (both) be back next week!

This baby is a great excuse to shop

So here's my second baby-bump wardrobe dilemma. (Well, besides the daily dilemma of finding pants that fit or attempting not to wear the same 5 outfits over and over again). I'll be going to a family wedding in early February and provided that my belly expansion-rate doesn't decide to like quadruple, or something, I think this little number might make me happy. . .

I'm thinking black tights - since I'm sure it'll be freezing, and also those lace embellishments do run just a tad high on the leg there, good thing I'm short. And y'all can see that the dress is a champagne/taupe color right? I'm not going to commit the 'bridal white' faux pas. Right? Thoughts?

Newly-wedded wife

Isn't she lovely?
At last week's LA premiere of The Spirit, Scarlett Johansson looked absolutely glowing, don't you think? I just love that beaming look you see on the newly-married. Looks like marriage agrees with her.

Pleased as punch

That's right pleased as punch I say, to let you know that Nina & Todd's wedding is featured in the current issue (Spring/Summer) of Brides Washington and Brides Maryland magazines!
Check out the shout out to yours truly, as well as Mary Kate McKenna, the Cake Cartel, Atelier Floral Design and Melissa Bluey. On newsstands now!

In her shoes

Excuse me Miss Cameron, but was is going on south of your ankles?
Nude rosette-embellished satin peep-toe pumps? With a white dress? Does it work?
I'll say.

From you, to them

If you're at least mid-engagement, by now you've figured you get a pretty decent amount of gifts out of this whole wedding thing. Which means, you're going to be needing some thank-you notes. A lot of thank-you notes in fact, so why not pick some absolutely gorgeous ones, like these beauties from Linda & Harriet.
I fell in love with them when I saw them on Cookie's Nesting blog this morning. I'm a fan of script-y looking fonts with a modern silhouette. These cards are limited edition and (swoon!) lined with vintage wall paper.
One small suggestion, if you don't mind my two cents. When we were getting married, we ordered our thank-you notes (lovely ones, from the Written Word) with our new address printed on the back. That lasted us through all the thank-yous for all our wedding gifts and then some. But fast-forward to our decision to leave the minuscule and overpriced one-bedroom apartment in 'glamorous' Penn Quarter for the quiet tree-lined streets of Glover Park and presto! Those envelopes were pretty much useless. So think long and hard before you order 500 envelopes with an address stamped on the back.

About (my) face

Yipee! My Laura Mercier oil-free foundation is running low and that means I've gotta a special treat coming my way. (Oh and by the way please don't balk at that price, it was an impulse purchase. . .I'm usually a MAC girl all the way).
See, when my make-up runs out, I wait until the day of a special occasion. . .a wedding, my birthday, New Year's Eve, that sort of thing. At this point I've got my outfit planned, my shoes selected and I probably just got a haircut, you know, for the blow-out. So I head on over to the department store make-up counter and. . .tada! I get my make-up done. For free! The exact details vary according to brand/store, but at MAC, spend $65 in product and the make-up job is on the house. . .it's a steal. Get where I'm going with this brides? It might not be a convenient route to go on for the wedding day, but if you've got an upcoming bridal shower, engagement party, bachelorette party or rehearsal dinner, and you're out of foundation, lip gloss, mascara, eye-liner, eye shadow, you name it, head on over to your favorite make-up counter, spend what you'd spend anyway and. .voila! Walk out feeling pretty and party-ready. Here are some great make-up looks, courtesy InStyle Weddings, for some inspiration.

Girls' Night

Just came home from a lovely girls' night at Ceviche, which reminded me that you all might be interested in this quick tip: if you're looking for bridesmaid dresses for your ladies, Hitched is showcasing Amsale's latest collection with their own little girls' night, a buying party this Thursday, December 11th, from 5 to 8 pm. Any Amsale bridesmaid gowns purchased will be 15% off.

If you can't come on Thursday night, call 202-333-6162 or appointments@hitchedsalon.com to set up an appointment for Friday, December 12. . .they'll still give you a 10% discount on any Amsale bridesmaid dresses purchased.

Are they for serious?

I've been to one or two weddings where you could feel a certain. . . let's call it concern, from the guests about whether or not the couple tying the knot was. . .let's say meant for each other.
To be blunt, some of us (ahem, them) were taking bets as to how long the marriage was going to last.
Sad, but true. But if you ask me, there's no need to speculate.
I always say that you can judge the future success of a marriage by how genuine and happy the bride and groom look in their wedding pictures.
If true love is in the air, there should be no posed smiles, no vanity, no smirking and no (what the?) glaring. Why do I bring it up? No reason. So, hey, Speidi finally got married. Thoughts?

What's in a name?

(Former?) Model Astrid Munoz strikes a pose in bridal white for the Sartorialist. Hmmm, Astrid. . .potential baby name? No, don't freak out mom and dad, I'm just trying to throw you off my scent.

'Tis the season (finally)

I've had to hold back from posting anything related to the holidays since like, September, but I'm ready to dip my toe in the water. Vera Wang thinks of everything.

High-heeled and pregnant

So, have I mentioned to y'all that I'm preggers? Indeed. . a few months in and so happy. Already searching for clothes that fit! And speaking of clothes that fit. . .

That's right. This spring, about four weeks before I'm scheduled to give birth to like, an actual baby, I will be walking down the aisle in front of over a hundred people as a bridesmaid for these two crazy kids. I am so, so, so happy to be in the wedding and am thrilled that my 'delicate condition' didn't give me the axe, but you know. . .I'm nervous! All eyes on me. . .which believe me, under normal circumstances I have no problem with. . .with an a enormous belly and God knows what else going on? (I'm hearing things about swollen ankles, and well swollen everything. I put my fingers in my ears when I hear these things). When I first became aware of this upcoming dilemma, I called around to local bridal shops to ask for advice. They told me I had two choices, go with a designer that carries maternity bridesmaid dresses (who knew their were such designers!?) or stick with an empire-waist, order 2-3 sizes too big and alter away. So armed with this advice, and a wonderful-bride who's actually taking my ever growing tummy into consideration, we've come up with some options and it's looking like a potential winner (!), that, believe it or not, we think will look good on all four of us - short legs, long legs and huge stomach. Want to see the dress? Fat chance, y'all know me better than that. You'll see it in due time, promise. In the meantime, if you or a friend are finding yourselves in the same predicament, here are some dresses that might work.

What do you guys think? Can I fit-in with the rest of the 'maids? I'm thinking it can be done.
